Benefits of Exercising at Home

There are many benefits to exercising at home, including convenience, privacy, and cost-savings.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of working out at home is that it’s simply more convenient than going to the gym.

You don’t have to worry about packing a gym bag or dealing with traffic and parking.

You can also exercise on your own schedule and take breaks whenever you want.

Another big advantage of exercising at home is that it offers a greater degree of privacy than the gym. If you’re self-conscious about your body or don’t like working out in front of other people, working out at home can be a much more comfortable experience.

Finally, exercising at home can save you money in the long run. Once you’ve invested in some basic equipment, you won’t have to pay for a gym membership or other recurring costs associated with going to the gym.

So if you’re looking for a way to get in shape that’s convenient, private, and cost-effective, working out at home may be the perfect solution for you.

Picking the Right Workout Accessories

Just like you need the right tools for the job, you need the right gear when you work out. The most important piece of equipment you’ll need is a good pair of shoes.

Depending on your workout, you might need different types of shoes. For example, if you’re going to be doing a lot of running, you’ll want to get a good pair of running shoes.

If you’re going to be lifting weights, you’ll want to get a good pair of cross-trainers.

Whatever type of workout you’re doing, make sure you get a good pair of shoes that fit well and provide the support you need.

In addition to shoes, there are a few other pieces of gear that can help improve your workout.

A good water bottle will help keep you hydrated, while a fitness tracker can help you monitor your progress and see how far you’ve come.

A good, no-nonsense, fitness tracker is the Fitbit Inspire. It uses 20+ exercise modes to track goals like distance, calories burned and more.

I’m personally fond of the Apple Watch and it’s what I use to track all my fitness. It’s more expensive, but you get to use it for way more things than just fitness.

When it comes to working out, having the right gear can make all the difference.

The Best at Home Exercise Equipment to Lose Weight

There are 2 categories of exercise equipment I want to talk about.

  • Strength Training
  • Cardio and Endurance

Both strength training and cardio workouts are important for losing weight.

Strength training helps build muscle, which in turn helps to burn more calories.

Cardio exercises help to improve your cardiovascular health and also help to burn calories.

You can use a variety of equipment for both strength training and cardio workouts.

Strength Training Equipment

Strength training is important because it helps you burn calories, boosts your metabolism, and builds muscle.

Bonus! When you have more muscle, your body burns more calories throughout the day, even when you’re resting. This means you’ll be able to lose weight faster, and you’ll also be less likely to gain weight in the future.

Strength training can also help improve your bone density and reduce your risk of injuries. This is especially important for women as we get older!

There are many different types of strength training equipment, but some of the best options for at-home use include:

Resistance bands

Resistance bands are a great way to add some extra resistance to your workouts.

They come in different colors, which correspond to different levels of resistance. The most common colors are red, black, and green.

Red is the lightest resistance, while black is the heaviest. Green is somewhere in the middle.

You can use resistance bands for a variety of exercises, such as bicep curls, triceps extensions, shoulder presses, and squats.

They are especially helpful for working out your legs and butt. Resistance bands are a great option for people who want to get a good workout without having to lift heavy weights.

Dumbbells

There are many different exercises that can be done with dumbbells, including biceps curls, triceps extensions, shoulder presses, and lunges.

Dumbbells are an effective way to build strength and muscle mass, and they can be used in both heavy lifting routines and more moderate workouts.

The key to getting the most out of your dumbbell workout is to choose the right weight for your level of fitness.

If you’re just starting out, it’s best to begin with lighter weights and gradually increase the amount of weight you’re lifting as you get stronger. There are a variety of dumbbells on the market, so it’s important to do some research before purchasing a set.

If you are looking for a set that can grow with you, then check out the adjustable set by Bowflex. We purchased these in 2020 and they have been a great investment for the entire family!

Kettlebells

Kettlebells are cannonball-shaped weights with handles attached to the top. They come in a variety of sizes, ranging from 5 pounds to over 100 pounds.

They can be used for a variety of exercises, including swings, squats, presses, and rows.

Kettlebells offer a unique way to challenge your body. They allow you to move in a variety of directions and planes of motion, which can help to improve your balance and coordination.

In addition, because kettlebells are often heavier than traditional dumbbells, they can help you to build strength and muscle mass.

Just about any exercise that you can do with a traditional dumbbell can be done with a kettlebell.

However, because of their unique shape, kettlebells also lend themselves well to certain exercises that cannot be done with traditional weights. For example, the kettlebell swing is a great exercise for developing explosive power and building up the muscles in your legs and glutes.

Pull-up bar

A pull-up bar is a simple but effective piece of equipment that can be used for a variety of exercises.

One of the most popular uses for a pull-up bar is to build upper body strength. By gripping the bar and pulling your body up, you can work your back, shoulders, and arms.

Additionally, pull-ups are an excellent way to improve your grip strength.

Another great use for a pull-up bar is to increase your range of motion. By hanging from the bar, you can stretch your back and shoulders, which can help to reduce pain and improve your mobility.

Finally, pull-up bars can also be used for a killer core workout. By hanging from the bar and bringing your knees up to your chest, you can target your abs and obliques.

So whether you’re looking to build muscle or increase your flexibility, a pull-up bar is a great piece of equipment to have in your home gym.

Exercise ball

An exercise ball, also known as a yoga ball, is a large inflatable ball that is used as part of a fitness routine. Exercise balls are often used in physical therapy, as they can help to improve balance and flexibility.

They can also be used for strength training, as they provide an unstable surface that challenges the muscles. There are a variety of exercises that can be done with an exercise ball, including sit-ups, crunches, push-ups, and lunges.

For best results, it is important to choose the right size ball for your height and to use proper form when performing the exercises.

Cardio and Endurance Equipment

Cardiovascular or aerobic exercise is any activity that gets your heart rate up and keeps it elevated for an extended period of time. This type of exercise is important for improving your overall health and reducing your risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

Endurance workouts are a type of cardiovascular exercise that involve repeating the same movement for an extended period of time. This type of exercise is important for improving your stamina and increasing your aerobic capacity.

There are a variety of pieces of equipment that can be used for cardiovascular and endurance workouts.

Here are my favorite cardio machines!

Treadmill

The treadmill is a great at home workout machine because it is low impact, easy on your joints, and you can adjust the speed and intensity to suit your fitness level.

Additionally, treadmill workouts can be long or short, so they are easy to fit into a busy schedule. And because you are working out in your own home, there are no distractions or excuses to skip a workout.

Treadmills are also relatively inexpensive, making them a great option for budget-conscious shoppers. So if you are looking for an at-home workout machine that is effective and affordable, the treadmill is a great choice.

Elliptical machine

The elliptical machine is a great at home workout machine because it’s low impact, it’s easy on the joints, and it’s a great cardio workout.

The elliptical machine is a great alternative to running because it’s a low impact exercise. Running can be hard on the joints, but the elliptical machine is much easier on the joints.

It’s also a great cardio workout. It gets your heart rate up, way more than just walking, and it’s a great way to burn a ton of calories quickly.

I typically burn 600 calories per hour on an elliptical machine, but I have to keep an eye on my heart rate too because it get super high with this type of workout.

Stationary bike

A stationary bike is a great at-home workout machine because it’s low impact, easy on the joints, and can be used by people of all fitness levels.

Riding an exercise bike is a great way to get your heart rate up and burn calories, and a stationary bike takes away some of the balance challenges that can be difficult for beginners.

Additionally, you can adjust the resistance on a stationary bike to make the workout more or less challenging, which is perfect for people who are just getting started with exercise or those who are trying to ramp up their fitness level.

And finally, because you’re not dealing with traffic or weather conditions, you can ride your bike indoors without having to worry about safety concerns.

Rowing machine

Rowing machines are great at home workout machines because they provide a full-body workout with little impact on your joints.

Rowing is an excellent way to strengthen your back and legs, and it also provides a good cardio workout.

In addition, rowing machines are relatively inexpensive and take up very little space.

Most importantly, using a rowing machine is a great way to stay in shape without having to go to the gym or join a rowing club.

You can row at your own pace, and you can vary your workout by changing the resistance level or using different rowing strokes.

Jump Rope

This isn’t a machine, but I couldn’t write this article without mentioning the jump rope!

Have you ever noticed how athletes always seem to have incredibly toned legs? It’s no coincidence – many of them credit jump rope as a key part of their workout routine. And it’s not just for professional athletes, either.

Jumping rope is a great at-home workout that anyone can do, regardless of their fitness level.

So why is jump rope such a great workout?

For starters, it’s a full-body exercise. While most people think of it as a leg workout, jumping rope also works your arms, shoulders, and core.

It’s also an excellent cardio workout, which is important for overall health and weight loss. And because it’s low-impact, it’s gentle on your joints and suitable for people of all ages.

There are many other reasons to give jump rope a try.

It’s affordable and easy to transport, so you can take it with you when you travel. It’s also a great way to get the family moving – kids love it! So if you’re looking for a fun, effective at-home workout, grab a jump rope and give it a try. You might be surprised at how quickly you see results!

What’s the best at home exercise equipment for YOU to lose weight?

Best at Home Exercise Equipment to Lose Weight workout room

There are a lot of different at home exercise options out there and it can be tough to decide what’s best for you.

If you’re looking for something that will give you a full body workout, I’d recommend a rowing machine.

Treadmills are great for cardio workouts and can also be used for HIIT (high intensity interval training) exercises.

If you’re looking to build muscle, I’d recommend getting a set of dumbbells or kettlebells. You can use them for a variety of exercises, and they don’t take up much space either.

Of course, resistance bands are great for working your arms, legs, and core.

The key to choosing the right exercise equipment for YOU, is to make sure it’s something that you’ll actually use!

Maybe you’d have more fun with a minitrampoline instead of a jump rope.

Or perhaps a ski machine is more your style than an elliptical machine.

Choose equipment that you will look forward to using on a regular basis. Once you find the right kind of workout for you, you’ll find sticking to a workout routine much easier!

  1. Great subject. Working out at home right now seems like a distant luxury, that maybe one day I might be able to achieve. As of right now, I am in a rented single room, with little space for equipment and storage. Financially, I am on a tight budget like most people and need to be careful what I do purchase. However, I do understand the importance of taking care of my mind and body through exercising at a gym. But I think that you are right in the fact that over time the equipment will pay for its self instead of paying a monthly fee for a gym membership. If you have any other helpful suggestions, let me know!

    1. If you have a Planet Fitness nearby, they are a great, inexpensive gym option. They don’t have classes for CrossFit, cycling (spin class), or yoga, but plenty of options for cardio and weight training.
